The Calling

The Calling
Author: Kelley Armstrong
Publisher: Harper Collins/April 2012
Series: Darkness Rising #2
Genre: Young Adult/Supernatural/Science Fiction

Maya and her friends–all of whom have supernatural powers–have been kidnapped after fleeing from a forest fire they suspect was deliberately set, and after a terrifying helicopter crash they find themselves pursued by evildoers in the Vancouver Island wilderness. {}

As with the previous novel in this series, I throughly enjoyed the story. Unlike, Armstrong’s other Young Adult series (Darkest Powers), this series is fully expanded. Armstrong did not leave any underdeveloped characters, or any flat story lines that didn’t travel far.

However, as with her previous novels, she did leave this book at a total cliff hanger.

I understand why Armstrong likes to do this: It keeps us coming back. However, as a reader I do not enjoy this type of story telling. I need resolution. I need answers to where their parents are, what is project phoenix, and will Maya end up like Annie?

Yes I understand that the answers to these questions would be the end of the series, but I do believe that with all the characters, there could be some resolution.
