Harper Price, peerless Southern belle, was born ready for a Homecoming tiara. But after a strange run-in at the dance imbues her with incredible abilities, Harper’s destiny takes a turn for the seriously weird. She becomes a Paladin, one of an ancient line of guardians with agility, super strength and lethal fighting instincts.

Just when life can’t get any more disastrously crazy, Harper finds out who she’s charged to protect: David Stark, school reporter, subject of a mysterious prophecy and possibly Harper’s least favorite person. But things get complicated when Harper starts falling for him—and discovers that David’s own fate could very well be to destroy Earth.

With snappy banter, cotillion dresses, non-stop action and a touch of magic, this new young adult series from bestseller Rachel Hawkins is going to make y’all beg for more. {}

My Review:

Rebel Belle  is a cool glass of sweet tea on a hot southern day. The story is such an amazing combination of pure southern gentility and general badassery!  And the story is just a gorgeous as the cover.

Rebel Belle is about a young southern girl who thinks her life is full of pomp and circumstance à la ball dresses and manicures, only to find out that she is destined to be something bigger and better. The story is told from Harper’s point of view. She is after all, the main character, and the chief perpetrator of the badassery. She is the perfect balance of prim and proper (with her need to never swear: “I suwannee”) and determination in being the best that she can be (whether that is a cotillion graduate or a southern ninja).

Overall, Rebel Belle  is a wonderful read, great candy for the brain. I would recommend this read to anyone who enjoyed the Hex Hall series, as well as anyone who enjoys a good quick read with great depth and character.
